About the Brule River
The Bois Brule River is a storied gem nestled in northern Wisconsin. It is renowned for its pristine beauty, rich history, and world-class trout fishing opportunities. Located just a 45-minute drive from Duluth, Minnesota, this picturesque river offers anglers and nature enthusiasts alike a chance to experience some of the best fishing the Midwest has to offer.
Spring awakens the Bois Brule with the runoff of snow and the arrival of wild steelhead, making it the ideal time for anglers eager to cast their lines. From April through mid-May, our fishing trips focus on targeting the river's steelhead population, providing a thrilling experience for both seasoned anglers and newcomers alike. The scenic surroundings, paired with the thrill of catching these beautiful and challenging fish, set the stage for unforgettable spring adventures.
As spring gives way to summer, the river transforms once again with the return of our migratory trout to Lake Superior; our focus changes to targeting the resident population of brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout.
At the end of summer and the start of fall, we begin welcoming migratory brown trout and salmon alongside returning steelhead. From August to mid-November, the Bois Brule becomes a haven for those looking to experience the thrill of fishing in the vibrant autumn landscape.
Our trips are designed as walk-and-wade excursions, allowing participants to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the river while maintaining a hands-on approach to fishing. Whether you're targeting actively moving fish or casting your line into deeper pools, each moment spent along the river's banks is a chance to connect with nature and experience all the Bois Brule has to offer.
Join us on the Bois Brule River for an exceptional fishing experience this year, with trips running from April 1st through November 15th, when the river closes. With its stunning surroundings and abundant fish populations, it is not just a trip; it's an adventure that promises memories to last a lifetime.
Respect the resource and be kind.
We are fortunate to have wild fish in the pristine waters of Northern Wisconsin. As anglers, we must do our best to ensure that this resource can be enjoyed for generations to come. It’s important to be kind to the river and considerate of your fellow anglers. We should respect the resource and the landowners living along the Brule River, as well as handle all fish with care. I encourage all anglers to practice catch and release as often as possible to ensure we maintain this fishery for many years to come.
The Brule River Sportsmen's Club offers a great starting point for anyone interested in responsible angling on its website. Additionally, the Superior Fly Angler in Superior, WI, is an excellent resource for anglers of all skill levels who want to learn more about the river. I’m also happy to answer any questions—feel free to reach out or stop for a chat while on the river.
